Fire

Fire has been used by humans for cooking, generating heat, signaling, and propulsion purposes. The negative effects of large scale fire include water contamination, soil erosion, atmospheric pollution and hazard to human life.

One of the prime benefits of making fire is that it makes it possible for people to cook food, thus increasing the variety and availability of nutrients and destroying many harmful contaminants in the process. The heat produced by fire also helps people stay warm in cold weather, enabling them to live in cooler climates. Fire also keeps nocturnal predators at bay.

There are many ways to build a fire, start a fire and control a fire.  As a survivalist, generating fire is probably one of the top 3 skills you should possess.

We don't even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.
